The Hitech is claimed to be a 3 stop ND filter, although it is closer to 3 1/3 stops actually. Of course I am going to get rid of the Cokin and keep the Hitech. This is also true for other WB settings be it outdoor or indoor. The sepia "effect" of the Cokin is very hard to compensate in Photoshop because it means massive desaturation too as you can see on the sample here. Here are some samples: all shot with same WB setting (Incandescent) and auto exposure in RAW, developed with RSP using the exact same parameters. Hitech is almost perfect, one can observe only a slight cool (blue/gray) tint. Cokin is sold in major photo shops, Hitech filters can be ordered here for instance:īeing neutral is essential for an ND filter, however the Cokin ND8 filter isn't neutral at all. Price difference is not a big deal, the Cokin is cheaper by some 4 euros. Hitech is a bit bigger and easier to slide into the filter holder due to its diagonally cut corners. ND0.9, ND8 and 3 stop ND are all refer to the same strength of neutral density filters. Material, thickness and flexibility seems similar with the Cokin 3 stop ND filter (P154) and the Hitech 85 ND0.9 (85 refers to the width of the filters in mm, Hitech 85 filters fit the Cokin P holder). (Checked that with the 18-70 kit lens and the 18-50/2.8 Sigma zoom.) For a 35mm DSLR camera the Cokin P size is just perfect: the filter holder won't cause vignetting at even 18mm. I use the Cokin square filter system because that is the only sensible way to use ND grads which are essential to my landscape work. It is 3 1/2 years now since the P900 took the photographic world by storm so what will the new P1000 offer the photographer and will we see P900 owners upgrading VIDEO REVIEWS on this Page before you buy. Just thought I would share my experience on Cokin and Hitech ND filters since I happen to have both. The new Nikon Coolpix P1000 is about to be come to market.
